orange zoom zoom

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever spent money on but...I like it.

It is also a perfect ying yang to the boxy, utilitarian Element...

zoomzoom=funfun and it's copper mica red!!! (orangish)

napkin sketch competition

The firm had the ubiquitous Napkin Sketch Competition this summer inspired by the one in Arch Record last summer, which I did not win...1500 entries...oh well.

So when the firm did it and I went after it...and won 1st and 3rd. Coool.

However there were other sketches that were better than mine in some ways so when I saw the 30 submitted sketches I thought there was only a small chance of winning.

Above is my 3rd place (most amusing) and first place (plaza in center madrid) and one of last years entitled "breakfast"

The bottom 2 I thought were both excellent and worthy...zoom in on the one on the left. I gave my third place prize to the guy on the left because he was an intern and his drawing is amazing.

orange outing

We even let them out occassionally...here is the orioles at the redwings game...fun for all.

orange afield

They are the orangest thing going...they are the orioles of the eastside. Grace's second season under Coach Elliott. Well done Coaches.

Grace does this magic trick where she manages to hit the ball (slightly) with her eyes closed. Boy do the coaches love that.

They won a few games this season...Grace had some hits...her throws to first were better this year and she started pitching. She threw quite a few strikes in her last outing. I think she had fun.

lost photos

the gang was all here at our place for the belated party for Grace's Communion. We had chicken and shrimp off the barbie...I made 5lbs of shrimp...I thought there would be tons of leftovers but...no...I guess they came out pretty good.

We had a little family "slide show " which we have not had in some time. Good fun.

New Frank Lloyd Wright

I have admired this design for a long time.. super strong horizontals, reminds me of Unity Temple a little...the renderings were looking up from the bottom of a cliff...very japaneese...this design was never excuted ...until 2 years ago when some local Buffalo people paid for the "Wright" to build it.

Nicely executed...door finishes are failing already.

I still can't figure out how he can get the steel to cantilever that far and hold the concrete
panels...dead load way above 50lbs/sf...?
